Resting Eight Days a Week

We are all too tired and we are all doing too much!! Especially those who work from home, work while being a student, or work while caring for loved ones. We need to recharge ourselves as often as we recharge our phones. Here is how to rest and refresh on all levels: 

Physical

What can drain our battery? -housework -taking care of loved ones or pets -labor intensive jobs -chronic illness

How can we recharge?  -improving sleep -short naps -reading or watching movies -yoga -stretching -massages 

Mental

What can drain our battery? -anxiety, depression, trauma, adhd, etc. -needing to focus on work or school -stress from finances or health issues

How can we recharge? -talk therapy -virtual or in-person support groups -journaling -guided meditation -snuggling pets 

Sensory

What can drain our battery? -screens -music -lights -people talking -the weather or room temperature -being hungry

How can we recharge? -using sunglasses or earplugs -showering or layering clothes -keeping snacks nearby -scheduling alone time 

Emotional

What can drain our battery? -caring for others -saying we are “fine” or “just tired” -viewing content about politics or true crime

How can we recharge? -being honest about emotions -crying when needed -watching funny movies or shows -taking our meds or supplements

 Social

What can drain our battery? -loved ones -classmates -co-workers -doctors -politics -holidays -social media

How can we recharge? -setting boundaries -taking yourself out for a treat -putting your phone in grayscale -solo activities like walking, reading, exercising, driving, etc. 

Creative

What can drain our battery?  -having to write or read or complete projects as a student or employee -self-doubt

How can we recharge? -visiting nature -reading inspiring autobiographies -trying a different medium -considering food, art, inventions, etc. from other cultures

 Spiritual

What can drain our battery? -politics -war -illness -death -grief -doing too much for others -being unappreciated

How can we recharge? -prayer -meditation -building community -acupuncture -tai chi -positive affirmations -practicing gratitude

 Cellular/systemic

What can drain our battery? -eating too much or too little -junk food -caffeine -smoking -alcohol -not wearing sunscreen

How can we recharge? -fruits and veggies -tea -healthy fats and fiber -drinking at least 64 oz of water -sleep -hygiene
